The Elephant In The Room
Hmm, where to start?
First things first, I had better acknowledge that it’s been over 7 weeks since I uploaded a YouTube video, also, the footage I am currently editing, is over a year old. This is not good.
Needless to say, it’s been quite a year aboard Narrowboat Perseverance.
I can’t continue this post without saying a big thank you to everyone who still wants to watch our videos and who is still supporting us and cheering us along, it really does mean so much to us.
So, how did we get into this predicament? As you may know, back in 2017 Michael, George and I embarked on this mad quest to travel on every inch of every canal, river, lode and drain on the connected waterways network. At the same time, we decided to create a YouTube channel so we could publish videos of every day of our journey. In October last year, five years after we started, we achieved our goal, we finished the trip. It was quite a moments occasion and meant that we could implement plans for new goals and new adventures. Which is why, almost 12 months later, the footage from the last 10 or so days of the trip, currently remains unedited. This is not good.
Finishing the video series had become almost as important to me as finishing the trip itself, which is why I am so determined to finally get those last few days edited into vlogs for our channel. We understand that not all of our viewers will want to watch footage that is so old but we also know that there are many wonderful people who do want to see us complete the trip… so for those people, watch this space, the videos are still coming.
Now, onto the reasons for the delay… the boring truth is I simply haven’t had the time or the mental space. As many of you know, back in November 2021 we started on a project to do some renovations on our narrowboat home. To say that the scope of those renovations escalated, would be a bit of an understatement. Last winter was especially hard for us. Everyday from dawn till dusk we worked, in the cold, on Perseverance. It was pretty miserable and there were times when we couldn’t see how we would ever be able to make her habitable again. In the end we had no choice but to keep chipping away at the work, hour after hour, day after day, 7 days a week. Bit by bit we slowly put our home back together again and in the spring we were able to move back on board our half finished boat. I think it is safe to say that we will never embark on a project like this, ever again. If we had known a year ago what it would entail we wouldn’t have started the project. There were even broken bones & trips to A&E along the way. It took its toll mentally and physically and honestly, we haven’t recovered yet.
We did film a lot of the process, but there were many times when I had no energy or inclination to point a camera at what we are doing, I will start looking through that footage soon and hopefully be able to cobble together some entertaining videos. I tried to make a point of taking many pictures along the way and I am really looking forward to putting together some side by side before and after images. We keep reminding ourselves, that after all that work and stress, at least we have ended up with a much, much nicer home as a result.
So, I guess what I am trying to say is, sorry for the delay, thank you for the understanding and support and watch this space for what is coming next. Updates soo.
